We Buy Ugly Houses presents big check to Lake-McHenry Habitat for Humanity

Tara Farnsworth and Bob Albrecht are the winners of the 2024 The Ugliest House of the Year® Contest.  They completed the transformation of a quaint Chicago area 1923 home and won the 18th annual heated competition. Once high school sweethearts, Farnsworth and Albrecht reconnected six years ago and started a HomeVestors® franchise together in October 2022. Now engaged, they have beautified 12 houses since then, bonding with grateful homeowners and neighbors as they caringly breathe new life into homes like this year’s winner.

“It’s deeply satisfying to turn the worst house on the block into the best,” added Albrecht. “Our work doesn’t just uplift homes; it transforms entire neighborhoods. We often get to assist people facing emotional or financial challenges, and help them close painful chapters. Some sellers return to see their homes beautifully restored, which brings joy to everyone involved as new life is brought back to a place that holds so much significance.”

We Buy Ugly Houses® prides itself on buying homes traditional buyers may not consider. After purchase, franchises often improve homes and reintroduce them to their communities as valuable real estate assets, helping maintain an affordable housing supply.

we buy ugly houses donates to the Lake-McHenry Habitat for Humanity

In celebration of Bob and Tara's achievement, we donated $20,000 to the Lake-McHenry Habitat for Humanity. The donation was presented during a heartfelt ceremony at their headquarters with Larry Goodman, CEO of HomeVestors on-hand to deliver the check. This act of generosity further emphasized the impact that We Buy Ugly Houses and its franchisees have in the revitalizing of communities.
